What Makes Sykesville Veterinary Clinic So Special?

Pets are like family members, which is why you undoubtedly want to make sure you are taking them to a vet who will treat them as if they were their own. These days, it can seem like there are so many vet options, it can be difficult to know who to go with. Even if you think you’ve find a fine veterinarian who is friendly to both you and your and beloved pet, they may not be the absolute best fit for your pet’s needs.

This is where we come in. All of us at Sykesville Veterinary Clinic, which has been a staple of the community since 1995, believe in offering the highest level of service, care, and attention to each and every fur baby that comes in through our doors.

We LOVE animals and have worked hard to do what we can to create a positive human-pet experience. Purchased in 2001 by Dr. Ellen Colwell, Sykesville has a reputation of going above and beyond to give all pets the personal attention and care they deserve. We understand how important your dog, cat, ferret, rabbit, or other small pet is to you, which is why we will do everything we can to enhance both you and your pet’s veterinary experience.

About Sykesville Vet Clinic

As mentioned above, Sykesville is headed by Dr. Colwell, who built a large following of devoted clients at her previous position at Ellicott City Veterinary Clinic. When asked what makes Sykesville different from the rest, Dr. Colwell is our answer. Her love of animals and dedication to providing quality, compassionate, and personal care to all of her animal clients and their human owners is unparalleled.

Dr. Colwell became a vet because she wanted to start her own clinic that was unlike the rest. She found that many clinics were lacking certain services as well as the personal attention that she strived to provide. This commitment to slowing things down in today’s fast-paced society is just one of the things that makes our clinic special. We don’t rush through appointments; instead, we set aside time to ensure each pet is thoroughly examined and each owner is given the time to ask us questions and make sure they feel comfortable with everything.

What to Look for in a Vet

Sykesville is special, there’s no doubt about it. Our philosophy about pet care and healthcare in general are just a few of the things that set us apart from the rest. If you are still looking for a vet, make sure you end up with one that will include you and create an environment where you are just as essential to your pet’s health as your vet. Here are a few quick questions to keep in mind when looking for a vet:

  • What is their philosophy regarding pet care?
  • How involved are they in the community?
  • Can you get timely answers to your medical questions?
  • Are they friendly and willing to work with you?
  • Is their equipment current and modern?
  • Will they allow you to tour the facility before making an appointment?
  • Do they have your pet’s best interests in mind?
  • How do they approach pets that have anxiety surrounding vet visits?
  • How does the veterinarian interact with animals and their owners at the clinic?

We hope you now have a better understanding of who we are and what types of things you should look for in a vet. If you have any questions at all or would like to visit our clinic, please feel free to stop by or give us a call!
